Distinctive Multi-Hardwood Pattern
The layout is built around long, vertical bands of contrasting hardwoods.
Darker Walnut and Sapele sections provide visual weight, while lighter
Maple strips introduce contrast and rhythm throughout the board.
Cherry adds warmth and subtle tonal variation, helping soften the
transition between the lighter and darker woods. Together, the species
create a structured pattern that remains visually interesting without
overpowering the natural grain.
Premium Hardwood Construction
Four carefully selected hardwood species contribute to the board’s
strength, color, contrast, and overall character.
-
Walnut: Deep brown coloring with rich grain movement
and natural variation -
Sapele: Warm reddish-brown tones with subtle ribbon
grain and depth -
Maple: Light, clean coloring that creates brightness
and visual separation -
Cherry: Warm reddish tones that deepen naturally over
time
Because each piece of hardwood has its own grain, tone, and figure, no two
finished boards will ever be exactly alike.
Why End Grain Matters
End grain construction positions the ends of the wood fibers at the
cutting surface. This allows the fibers to separate slightly beneath a
knife edge and then return toward their original position, helping reduce
visible wear while remaining gentler on quality knives.
- Knife-friendly cutting surface
- Helps minimize visible cutting marks
- Durable construction for regular use
- Highlights the character of each hardwood block
Built For Everyday Performance
Measuring approximately 19.25 inches long and 11.5 inches wide, this board
provides a practical working surface for everyday food preparation while
remaining easy to handle and store.
Its approximately 1.5-inch thickness gives the board a substantial,
stable feel suitable for slicing, chopping, serving, and general kitchen
use.
Functional Enough To Use, Distinctive Enough To Display
The balanced hardwood pattern allows this board to serve as both a
dependable kitchen tool and a handcrafted presentation piece. It can be
used for everyday prep, cheese and charcuterie service, or displayed on
the countertop when not in use.
Handcrafted One Board At A Time
Every Fifeco Woodworks board is individually planned, milled, assembled,
flattened, sanded, conditioned, and inspected by hand. Attention is given
to the relationship between each hardwood species so the finished board
remains visually balanced and structurally sound.
Natural variation in grain, color, figure, and block placement is part of
the character of genuine hardwood and makes every finished board unique.
Care Notes
Hand wash only using mild soap and warm water, then dry promptly. Do not
place the board in a dishwasher, leave it submerged in water, or expose it
to extreme heat.
Periodically apply a food-safe butcher block conditioner to nourish the
hardwood, preserve its natural color, and help protect it from drying
during regular use.
