3D Cube Combination End Grain Cutting Board – Two Board Set

$250.00

This handcrafted 3D Cube Combination two-board set brings together
dimensional geometry, layered hardwood contrast, and functional end grain
construction in two coordinated boards built from the same design language.

The larger board measures 19" x 12.5" x 1 3/8", while the
smaller board measures 9" x 12.5" x 1 3/8". Both boards
share a central 3D Cube pattern created from Purple Heart, Yellow Heart,
Padauk, and Hard Maple, with Purple Heart and Padauk alternating through
the dimensional center. From there, Cherry, White Oak, Tigerwood, Black
Limba, Mahogany, Wenge, and Nogal build the design outward in successive
layers.

Perfect For

  • Coordinated kitchen preparation
  • Serving and entertaining
  • Two-station food prep
  • Distinctive handcrafted gifts
  • Functional geometric wood art

The Fifeco Product Story

The Craftsman's Note

The center of this set was built differently from a traditional repeating 3D Cube pattern. Purple Heart and Padauk alternate through the cubes, allowing the center to change color and rhythm as it moves along each board. From there, the design develops outward through Cherry, White Oak, a narrow Tigerwood accent, Black Limba, and Mahogany before ending in an alternating Wenge and Nogal border. Both boards were built together so the smaller piece carries the same visual language as the larger one.

Why This Board?

This two-board set combines a dimensional focal point with a layered design that becomes broader and more natural as it moves outward. The 3D Cube center provides visual depth, while the surrounding hardwoods create transition, contrast, and grain character. Because both boards share the same construction and material progression, they can function independently while still reading as one coordinated handcrafted set.

Alternating 3D Cube Center

The center of each board is built around a repeating 3D Cube pattern
using Purple Heart, Yellow Heart, Padauk, and Hard Maple. Rather than
repeating the same three-color cube throughout the design, Purple Heart
and Padauk alternate within the pattern, creating subtle changes in color
and rhythm as the eye moves along the center of the board.

Yellow Heart and Maple provide the lighter faces needed to define the
geometry, while the deep Purple Heart and warm reddish Padauk create the
contrasting dimensional surfaces. The result is a center pattern that
appears to shift in depth and color without relying on stains or
artificial coloring.

A Design That Builds Outward In Layers

The 3D Cube center establishes the focal point, but the surrounding
hardwoods are arranged to progressively expand the composition outward.

Cherry introduces warm natural color immediately beside the dimensional
center, followed by White Oak with its lighter grain and strong end grain
character. A thin Tigerwood strip creates a narrow visual break before
the design transitions into Black Limba and Mahogany.

The final outer border alternates Wenge and Nogal, creating a dark,
segmented frame that contains the lighter and more colorful interior
design.

Two Boards, One Design Language

The two boards were built as a coordinated set rather than as unrelated
pieces. Both use the same hardwood progression and central geometry,
allowing the smaller board to carry the character of the larger board
in a more compact form.

The larger board provides the primary working surface, while the smaller
board can serve naturally beside it for smaller preparation tasks,
ingredients, serving, or presentation. Used together or separately,
the two boards remain visually connected.

Premium Hardwood Construction

This set combines a broad selection of hardwoods, with each species
contributing a different color, grain pattern, or visual role within
the finished design.

  • Purple Heart:
Deep natural purple tones used within the alternating 3D Cube center
  • Yellow Heart:
Bright golden-yellow color that helps define the dimensional geometry
  • Padauk:
Rich reddish-orange tones alternating with Purple Heart within the center
  • Hard Maple:
Light natural color used to create definition and visual separation within the cubes
  • Cherry:
Warm reddish-brown hardwood that begins the transition outward from the center
  • White Oak:
Lighter hardwood with distinctive grain character and strong visual texture
  • Tigerwood:
Used as a thin accent line to create separation between design layers
  • Black Limba:
Naturally varied hardwood with bold dark streaking and expressive grain
  • Mahogany:
Warm reddish-brown color that adds depth to the outer composition
  • Wenge:
Deep brown to nearly black hardwood used within the alternating outer border
  • Nogal:
Rich brown hardwood alternating with Wenge to complete the outer frame

No stains or artificial coloring are used. Every visible color and
contrast comes from the natural hardwood species themselves.

Geometry And Natural Character

The center of the board is highly controlled and geometric, while the
design gradually allows more of the natural grain and figure of the
surrounding hardwoods to become visible as it moves outward.

The repeating Cube pattern provides dimension. Cherry and White Oak
soften the transition. Tigerwood creates separation. Black Limba and
Mahogany introduce broader natural character. The alternating Wenge and
Nogal border then brings the entire composition together.

Each hardwood serves a different purpose within the design while
contributing to one complete visual structure.

Why End Grain Matters

End grain construction positions the ends of the wood fibers at the
cutting surface. This allows the fibers to receive knife impact more
naturally, helping reduce visible wear while providing a durable surface
for everyday food preparation.

  • Knife-friendly cutting surface
  • Durable end grain construction
  • Helps reduce visible cutting wear
  • Designed for dependable everyday use

Designed For Use And Display

The geometric center and layered hardwood composition give both boards
enough visual character to remain on display when they are not being
used, but the design remains rooted in practical kitchen function.

The larger board provides a generous surface for everyday preparation,
slicing, and serving, while the smaller board is well suited for smaller
ingredients, prep work, presentation, or serving beside the main board.

  • Kitchen preparation
  • Serving and presentation
  • Entertaining
  • Coordinated countertop display
  • Distinctive two-piece gifting

Handcrafted One Board At A Time

Every component of both boards was individually cut, arranged,
assembled, flattened, sanded, conditioned, and inspected by hand.

Particular attention was given to maintaining the relationship between
the two boards so that the dimensional center, surrounding hardwood
layers, and alternating outer border remain visually connected across
the set.

Natural variation within the hardwood ensures that even when the same
design is built again, no two sets will have exactly the same grain,
color balance, or individual character.

Care Notes

Hand wash only with mild soap and water, then dry promptly. Do not place
in a dishwasher, leave submerged in water, or expose the boards to
prolonged extreme heat.

Periodic conditioning with a food-safe butcher block conditioner will
help preserve the hardwoods, enrich their natural colors, and support
long-term performance.
