$200.00

This handcrafted 3D Cube Combination cutting board brings together
geometric end grain craftsmanship, natural hardwood contrast, and a
substantial working surface in a design created to be both used and
appreciated.

Tigerwood and Padauk form the distinctive 3D cube center, while Hard
Maple, Tigerwood, and Padauk continue the composition outward. The
natural differences in color and grain create depth, movement, and
visual contrast without the use of stains or artificial coloring.

The Fifeco Product Story

The Craftsman's Note

The center is what gives this board its movement, but I didn't want the cube pattern to exist by itself. The Hard Maple creates a natural visual pause around it, allowing the Tigerwood and Padauk geometry to stand out before those same warmer colors begin working their way back into the surrounding design. To me, that relationship between the individual sections is what makes the finished board feel complete rather than simply patterned.

Why This Board?

This board is for someone who wants the visual impact of a 3D cube design without sacrificing the warmth and character of natural hardwood. Tigerwood and Padauk create the dimensional center, Hard Maple provides the strong light contrast that defines it, and the surrounding Tigerwood and Padauk bring the composition together. The result is a working end grain cutting board whose individual patterns remain distinct while contributing to one cohesive design.

3D Cube Center Design

The center of the board is built around a repeating 3D cube pattern
created from carefully arranged Tigerwood and Padauk. Although the
cutting surface is completely flat, the geometry creates the illusion
of dimensional cubes rising and falling across the board.

The effect changes subtly with viewing angle and lighting, allowing
individual shapes to emerge from the larger pattern while still
remaining part of a continuous geometric composition.

Built Around The Center

Rather than allowing the 3D pattern to stand alone, the surrounding
design was built outward from it. Hard Maple introduces a broad,
light-colored transition that defines and frames the cube center,
while additional Tigerwood and Padauk carry the warmer natural tones
into the outer portions of the board.

This progression gives the design structure. The center provides the
strongest geometric movement, the Maple gives it room to breathe,
and the surrounding hardwood pattern brings the composition back
together at the edges.

Natural Hardwood Contrast

Only the natural colors and grain of the hardwoods are used to create
the visual differences throughout this board.

  • Tigerwood: Warm golden-brown and darker tones with naturally expressive grain
  • Padauk: Rich reddish color that provides warmth and strong geometric contrast
  • Hard Maple: Light creamy color that separates and highlights the darker 3D pattern

No stains or artificial coloring are used. The contrast comes entirely
from the individual hardwood species and the way they are arranged
within the end grain design.

Geometric Craftsmanship

Creating a 3D cube pattern requires more than simply combining different
colors of wood. Individual pieces must be accurately cut and consistently
arranged so that their angles meet correctly and the illusion continues
from one section into the next.

Small differences become visible within a repeating geometric design,
which makes careful layout, alignment, glue-up, surfacing, and finishing
an important part of the craftsmanship behind the finished board.

Why End Grain Matters

End grain construction positions the ends of the wood fibers at the
cutting surface. This allows the fibers to receive knife impact more
naturally, helping reduce visible wear while remaining gentler on
quality knife edges.

  • Knife-friendly cutting surface
  • Helps reduce visible cutting marks
  • Durable construction for regular kitchen use
  • Designed for dependable long-term performance

Functional Wood Art

The dimensional pattern and natural hardwood contrast make this board
an immediate visual focal point, but its purpose extends beyond display.
It is built as a genuine end grain cutting surface for preparation,
slicing, serving, and everyday kitchen work.

When not in use, the geometric pattern gives the board enough visual
presence to remain on the counter as a handcrafted piece of functional
wood art.

Handcrafted Quality

Each piece of hardwood is individually selected, cut, arranged, glued,
surfaced, sanded, conditioned, and inspected by hand. Particular
attention is given to maintaining the relationships between the
Tigerwood and Padauk cube elements and the surrounding Maple and
hardwood design.

Natural variation in color and grain ensures that even another board
built from the same species and geometric pattern could never reproduce
this one exactly.

Care Notes

Hand wash only with mild soap and water, then dry promptly. Do not place
in a dishwasher, leave submerged in water, or expose the board to extreme
heat. Periodic conditioning with a food-safe butcher block conditioner
will help preserve the hardwoods, enrich their natural colors, and
support long-term performance.
